Excerpt from The City Passes By - sung by Jane Hamlet

© Geoff Lavelle and John Dixon, 2006

The city passes by,

Winds blow,

Gulls fly,

Too high

For troubles we all know

Down here below.

I'm travelling along

In the highways of song

And turning reality to rhyme,

And the words I employ

Are of laughter and joy

And love and loss and wandering and time.

And everyone knows

Just how the music goes,

But no-one knows the hills I have to climb.

The city passes by,

Winds blow,

Gulls fly,

Too high

For troubles we all know

Down here below.
